Course Description

The Sexual Dependency Inventory-Revised (SDI-R 4.0) serves as a critical psychometric instrument for assessing compulsive sexual behaviors. However, the diagnostic utility of any assessment is contingent upon the integrity of its response patterns. The research conducted by Williams et al. (2025) provides an essential evaluation of the “applied realities” of testing, investigating how environmental administration conditions and demographic variables influence validity indicators. Given that sexual dependency is characterized by intrusive fantasies, functional impairment, and deficits in impulse control, clinicians must distinguish between legitimate clinical presentations and distorted data. By mastering the mechanics of response pattern analysis, practitioners act as psychometric gatekeepers, ensuring that diagnostic conclusions are shielded from construct-irrelevant variability.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
- Understand the importance of internal validity scales and how they can be used to identify biased or unreliable client data.
- Learn the importance of using standardized test conditions for assessments.
- Come to understand why a one size fits all interpretation of psychometric scores can lead to diagnostic errors.
