Sexual abuse among siblings is not an uncommon form of sexual harm seen in youth with problematic sexual behaviors. Particularly with youth that have had adverse childhood experiences. However, sibling sexual abuse is not often studied. 

This research study compares characteristics of male adolescents who were sent to treatment for sexual offending behavior against siblings and non-siblings. Particular attention is paid to adverse childhood experiences and family characteristics. 

Implications for clinical treatment of these adolescents is also discussed.

Learning Objectives

Learners will:

  1. Come to understand the developmental risk factors associated with harmful sexual behavior against siblings.
  2. Understand the existing scientific literature on differences between youth who sexually harm siblings and non-siblings.
  3. Come to understand the influence of adverse childhood experiences on sexually harmful behavior.
