Course Description

A realistic digital illustration of a man, with compulsive sexual behavior, in his mid-30s sitting alone in a dimly lit room, shown in a reflective or distressed pose. The man's face appears troubled, showing subtle signs of inner turmoil—his eyes are slightly downcast, jaw tense, and brows furrowed. The background is symbolic rather than literal: faint shadows or fragmented reflections of the man appear around him, representing different facets of personality (e.g., shadowy figures symbolizing negative affect, antagonism, detachment, etc.). The color palette is muted—shades of gray, blue, and a touch of red—to evoke emotional tension and psychological complexity. The overall mood is introspective, serious, and clinical, not dramatic or erotic. No explicit content. Style should be clean, modern, and suitable for an academic or therapeutic setting.

This research article, from the Journal of Behavioral Addictions, investigates the personality characteristics of men who exhibit compulsive sexual behavior with by comparing them to a control group of men without hypersexual disorder (HD).

The study utilized the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5-BF) to assess five domains of personality maladjustment: negative affect, detachment, psychoticism, antagonism, and disinhibition.

The findings indicate that men with HD exhibit significantly higher levels of maladjustment across all five domains. While a regression analysis did not identify specific predictive personality domains for HD in this sample, the study highlights the extent of personality maladjustment and potential interpersonal difficulties experienced by men with HD, suggesting these factors could be important in understanding and treating the condition.
