Course Description

This academic paper, “Accessing child sexual abuse material: Pathways to offending and online behavior,” examines how individuals become involved in consuming child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and their online habits.
The authors surveyed 75 male CSAM offenders in a treatment program, focusing on their initial exposure, progression of engagement, and methods to access and avoid detection. Findings suggest that many offenders encounter CSAM unintentionally or through legal pornography and are not necessarily technically sophisticated.
The research also identifies situational factors and psychological states influencing offending, and concludes that prevention efforts should focus on reducing opportunities and implementing online interventions like warning messages and blocking access.
This is an accredited course designed for Licensed Professional Counselors to earn Continuing Education Hours, or LPC CEHs
